Some of the world's most spectacular
natural beauty can be found in the southeastern United States. The
mountains of eastern Tennessee, northern Georgia, western North
Carolina, and Virginia are particularly rich with an abundance of
National Parks and Forests, state-maintained facilities, charming
villages, and local crafts.
Traversing through the heart of this area is the famous Blue Ridge
Parkway, which originates in the Great Smoky Mountains National
Park near Cherokee, North Carolina, and joins the Skyline Drive
in the Shenandoah National Park in northern Virginia. Along these
parkways, or within a short drive from them, are several outstanding
travel attractions known as the Southern Highlands Attractions (SHA).
